Every good night in these stories has a table in it.

A terrace in Spello with a bottle already breathing. A narrow lane and a single candle on the linen. A spoonful of gelato taken from across a table. The stories in this Journal are about what two people want from each other, and so often the wanting starts over dinner.

Each menu here is a whole evening for two. The starter, the main and the dessert. The wine for each course and a cocktail named for the scene. Who does what in the kitchen, so the two of you cook it together and arrive at the table at the same moment.

The Table is that dinner, on your own table.
